Follow dedicated cycling paths along the Danube, passing the Blue Church and SNP Bridge while learning about Bratislava’s historic context. Continue to the BS-4 bunker, a large concrete structure built between 1935 and 1938 as part of Czechoslovakia’s western border defenses against the rising threat of Nazi Germany.
The route then leads to BS-8 bunker, featuring exhibits including original bunker components, weapon systems, fortress turrets, and military materials from the interwar period. You’ll also see the nearby military cemetery and learn about the region’s Cold War history, including Iron Curtain fortifications active during the 1950s Communist regime.
After visiting the bunkers, cycle back toward Bratislava’s Old Town with stops where your guide will provide insights on sites between Bratislava and Austria. Reflect on the contrast between past border restrictions and today’s free movement within the European Union.
