Description
Enjoy a relaxing boat trip to Gabčíkovo Dam, where you can observe the filling of lock chambers from the bridge above. The scenic landscape around the dam features riparian forests that enhance the natural environment.
Gabčíkovo waterworks, completed in 1992 after 15 years of construction, was built to prevent floods, ensure a reliable Danube fairway, generate electric power, and manage water level differences through lock chambers. The chambers are located on the left bank of the river and are visible from a 10-meter-wide bridge, where the fully automated process of filling and draining can be observed. Each lock chamber holds up to 299,000 m³ of water, with the filling and draining process taking around 30 minutes.
