Meet your guide at Ganymede’s Fountain in front of the Slovak National Theatre. From here, take a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of this once-free royal town. Discover where the oldest Jewish settlement was located and why this was a very strategic spot. Next, visit the Holocaust Memorial and understand its powerful symbolism. Along the way, notice the Star of David, which carries additional meaning that may be unfamiliar to you. Near the memorial, hear the story of the city’s lost synagogue and admire open-air exhibitions dedicated to Jewish heritage. Follow your journey along Jewish Street, home to the Museum of Jewish Culture, and explore the former Jewish Quarter. Learn about notable personalities - scholars, artists, architects, athletes, businessmen, and, last but not least, heroes of the local resistance movement - whose captivating stories continue to inspire. Enjoy a walk through the historic Old Town, where Jewish footprints are commemorated by plaques and stumble stones. Depending on your time and preferences, complete the tour at the only preserved synagogue in Bratislava, built in an interesting cubist architectural style, or, as a cherry on top, take a 10-minute drive to the Chatam Sofer Memorial, located near the Danube River. This essential tour offers a great introduction to Bratislava, but for a deeper experience, consider taking an extension. You can visit Trnava, just a 30-minute drive from Bratislava, and explore two former synagogues now filled with art and beauty. Alternatively, visit Trenčín to see its impressive castle and a beautifully renovated synagogue. Another option is Sereď, home to the Holocaust Museum located at an authentic WWII camp site. These extensions enrich your understanding of the area's Jewish heritage and will make you proud of how historical buildings are now restored and alive.
