Description

Bratislava always wanted to be modern and sought after contemporary artistic and urbanistic trends. We will start in the 20th century and go back in time. We will start with the Communist decades and how they shaped once romantic Beauty on the Danube town. I will show you few examples of the architecture from the 1950s-80s in the Old Town. After that I will take you to a lovely bright passage typical for the interwar Czechoslovak functionalism and talk about creation of Czechoslovakia and a new architecture that was built after WWI. Bratislava was the capital of the Hungarian Kingdom from the 16th to the 19th century. We will start with the period when Franz Joseph ruled Central Europe - our belle epoque and its most beautiful place - Hviezdoslav Square with the Opera House. 18th century aristocratic town will wait for us. Bratislava, or better to call it Pressburg was town of palaces and great composers and musician. Lets walk down the High Streets of this aristocratic residence. Middle Ages were the first golden age. We cannot skip the Town Hall, Franciscan Church and the St Martins´ Church Just behind the St Martins´ Church is probably the oldest street in Central Europe. It will bring us to the medieval heart of Bratislava and to its Celtic roots. More than 2000 years of history in 2 hours tour. The best meeting point is your hotel in the centre or in front of the Tourist Information Centre at Primacialne namestie.
