Description
Start your journey in Vienna, the former Roman fortress of Vindobona. Together with our guide as part of a small group, continue along the ancient Danube Limes to Carnuntum. During the summer months, it is possible to stroll along the ancient Roman roads and immerse yourself in the Roman city quarter, a unique archaeological park in the world, where houses, thermal baths, and workshops have been restored on their original foundations, bringing everyday life in the Roman Empire to life before your eyes. Observe the majestic Gate of the Heathens (Heidentor), the ruin of a massive Roman triumphal monument — a symbol of imperial power. Take a look at the ruins of the amphitheater and the gladiator school, and imagine the roar of the crowds. Continue with a short scenic drive through Hainburg to Bratislava, a city richly adorned with medieval and baroque charm. Our first stop will be at one of the sixteen Petržalka bunkers, which were built between the First and Second World Wars and served as protective fortresses during the Iron Curtain period. Drive through the newer parts of the city and stop at Bratislava Castle, which majestically overlooks the Danube. From this viewpoint, you will see three countries (Slovakia, Austria, Hungary) and follow the route of your journey. Stroll through the picturesque historic streets of the Old Town. Stroll through the charming Old Town's cobbled lanes. See Michael's Gate, the whimsical statues (don't miss Cumil!), and stand before the majestic St. Martin's Cathedral, where 11 Hungarian Kings and 8 Queens were crowned. Enjoy a perfect amount of free time to savor a traditional Slovakian lunch (we’ll have the best local recommendations!) or find that perfect souvenir. After day full of interesting stops and informations, we will return to Vienna.Includes
