Castles-Ruins

If visitors find themselves in the White Carpathian Mountains (Biele Karpaty) near the village of Pruské, an imposing view of the Vršatské bradlá cliffs opens in front of them.

Remains of the royal sentry Vršatec Castle are on top of the rocks.

The original Gothic castle from the 13th century at the height of 805 m (2,641 ft) was destroyed in time of Rákoczi's rebellion in 1706. The legend has that the castellan of this castle cut his leg in order to help his master to escape from the Tartar prison.

The ruins provide an excellent view of the whole of central Považie and the valley of the river Váh with the mountains Súľovské and Strážovské vrchy. Instructive path, as well as various cyclist and hiking routes lead to the ruins.
