Ski Resort Chopok Juh (South) is a famous and popular resort mainly among those who love free skiing grounds and freeride. It has wide skiing grounds providing safe skiing in two freeride zones and on further 10,000 m (32,808 ft) marked and maintained ski slopes.
The resort Chopok Juh (South) is the opposite pole to the resort Jasná - Chopok North (Sever). It is situated in the Low Tatras on the south slopes of Chopok, in the region Horehronie, in the end of the valley Bystrá Dolina, only 9 km (5.6 mi) from the village Bystrá and 22 km (13.8 mi) from the town Brezno.
Bystrá dolina is situated in the protected area of NAPANT (The National Park of the Low Tatras) and is rimmed by the mountains Baba 1,617 m (5,305 ft), Pálenica 1,653 m (5,423 ft), Chopok 2,024 m (6,640 ft), Ďumbier 2,043 m (6,703 ft) and Veľký Gapel 1,776 m (5,827 ft).
The lifts and cable cars start from Krúpová from the elevation of 1,080 m (3,543 ft) above the sea level and go to Chopok to an elevation of 2,004 m (6,575 ft) above the sea level. The resort Chopok is according to the elevation divided in two parts:
Srdiečko (from Krúpová to Kosodrevina) 1,080-1,494 m (3,543-4,902 ft) asl; Kosodrevina (from Kosodrevina to Chopok) 1,494-2,004 m (4,902-6,575 ft) asl.
