Wooden Cottages of Rejdová
Slovakia
In many of Rejdová's houses, precious parts of the original equipment have been kept until today.
More than twenty wooden cobwork houses and barns have been preserved in the village. The houses are usually three-roomed, built of logs, coated with clay, and painted in blue colour. Their gabled roofs are covered with shingles. The interior usually contains a masoned stove with an open fireplace. The houses are followed by farm constructions, such as larders, stables, woodsheds, and farther on also barns and gardens. Some of the houses have their date of construction carved in a ceiling beam that is also ornamentally decorated.
Each year, a small ethnographic exhibition is installed in one of the empty wooden cottages during the local summer folklore festival. For this short while, the house is completely furnished with original furniture and accessories collected all over the village.
Some of the houses nowadays serve as recreational cottages or guesthouses.
