Manor House ?achtice
Slovakia
The village became famous for the local castle, residence of the 'Bloody Countess' Alžbeta Báthory.
The manor, also called Draškovičovský, was built in 1668 and enlarged by the end of the 17th century. The manor house is the seat of exhibition of the Museum of Trenčín focused on history and ethnography of Čachtice and its environs. Apart from history it also exhibits items documenting the local cultural and folk traditions under Čachtice Castle.
Exposition represents the collection of historical weapons, contemporary documents, clothing components and jewellery, collection of the portraits of the members of local aristocratic and yeoman clans, exhibits found at historical-archaeological research of the objects and during renovating works. The ceramics and arts of work remind a folk culture of Čachtice.
Since August 2008, a new exposition has been added 'Alžbeta Báthoryová - Krutosť ukrytá v čipkách' and its dominant is the reconstruction of the clothing of Alžbeta Báthory based on the contemporary depictions.
